To Do

(because "Bucket List" seems so morbid)

See Halley's Comet
I won't be able to see this until I am 76 years old. I was born under Halley's Comet, and it is my namesake. This one really depends on me living to see my 76th birthday.
Make a photojournal of the Fjords of Norway
I have already started looking at travel packages for this. I want it to be my first really nice trip after I am finished with my medical education. I have never left the country and I think fulfilling a dream I have had since I first read Journey to the Center of the Earth when I was in middle school is a great way to explore this lovely planet of ours.
See the Aurora Borealis
The absolutely amazing thing about having the Northern Lights on my list is that it can be accomplished at the same time as my dream of visiting the fjords. What luck! That trip will be the one of a lifetime.
Swim with Sharks
For some people it would seem scary, something they would never do. Some people may put things like skydiving on their lists. For me, it's a similar desire... the "afraid of heights" version. Seeing these majestic creatures in tanks at aquariums all over the nation (and always being pumped up about "Shark Week" every year...) has me wanting to be up-close and personal with these amazing creatures. Of course, I would totally want to be in one of those cages.
Kiss the Blarney Stone
My favorite story to hear around the dinner table with my dad's parents is always the one of my mimi kissing the Blarney Stone. So much, in fact, it made my list.
Run a 10k
I absolutely hate running. I feel like my effort exercising really could be spent in better, more enjoyable ways. However, I think running some kind of fun 10k race would be something I would be proud of myself for doing.
Design & Build my own House
I was, after all, almost an architect.
Become Bilingual
Spanish.
Kiss under a Beautiful Meteor Shower
I think I might knock that one out pretty soon. Meteor showers are never too far off.
Snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef
I have a good feeling about this one. Drew is always talking about making a trip to New Zealand and walking the Lord of the Rings trails (don't worry, I already accused him of being a dork and/or Dwight from The Office... Then again, I can't really blame him because it sounds super awesome haha). Australia and New Zealand are, like, next door neighbors.
Know the Major Constellations in the Sky
This requires no travel and only a touch of homework and some devotion to one of my favorite activities-- stargazing. When my brain isn't flooded with medical information, maybe I'll have time to focus on recreational learning.
Write & Illustrate a Children's Book
I've had dozens of ideas for characters I'd like to draw, it's the story I'm having a hard time coming up with. I have a good feeling that when I have kids the story will come. This one I won't rush.
Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
This just looks like an absolute blast.
Visit Stonehenge
I researched Stonehenge like crazy for a paper I wrote in my Prehistory through Medieval Art History class. Since then, I've been dying to see it. It's funny how researching things that are far away (and amazing... and mysterious...) gives you a hunger to experience them.
See the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam
As much as I try to find another artist, someone I like more (other than Leonardo da Vinci, who I consider more than just an artist), Van Gogh is, and may always be, my favorite artist. Seeing his museum in Amsterdam would be a dream come true. Amsterdam seems to attract people for a variety of reasons. This would easily be mine.
Paris
For the architecture. For the food. For the art. For the history. For the... Paris.
New Orleans
Sugar Bowl and the Joint Mathematics Meeting in January 2011. Stayed for a week. It was more than I had dreamed of. The food was amazing. The people were hospitable. The drinks were endless. The music was absolutely everywhere. The architecture was lovely. It was nice to cross one off my list. However, I think I'll definitely be going back.
Machu Picchu
There are no words for how breathtaking this would be. Even my fear of heights could not conquer me if I had the opportunity to visit this site.
Rome
Oftentimes I feel my life has been a series of stories and dreams mixed in with my reality. My favorite stories have come from mythology and legends, which explains many of the entries on my "to do" list. The places or experiences either have celestial significance or some straight from books or legends or myths I have read. In Rome's case, it's everything.
See the AFI's "100 Years... 100 Movies" 2007 Edition
So far, I've seen 28 of them. Not too shabby. There are other lists I would like to tackle, such as those others recommended by the AFI... and some must-read lists of science fiction books. This one, however, is one I feel like I should really make an effort to finish. All of these movies I have either seen or have had a desire to see.
Of course the nature of this list is to change, to grow, to be completed. I look forward to spending my life crossing items off this list and adding even more to it as I make memories and live my life.
